Welthungerhilfe Liberia
Welthungerhilfe was founded in 1962 as the National Committee of the Freedom from Hunger Campaign set up by the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation. Non-profit making, non-denominational and politically independent, it is run by a board of honorary members under the patronage of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Welthungerhilfe has been working in Liberia since the end of the civil war (2003) implementing more than 40 projects with a total budget of approximately €70 million co-financed by various donors: Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ, German acronym), European Union and private donors.
Initially Welthungerhilfe’s engagement consisted of emergency-oriented programs. Aside from the Ebola response, this focus has now shifted to a portfolio of rehabilitation and development projects guided by the Liberian government’s Agenda for Transformation.
