WaWaWa Diaspora
The WaWaWa Diaspora Centre is an inter-generational arts, education and tours project, elevating cultural preservation and community unification in Benin, West Africa. Wa means “come” in Fon, an indigenous Benin language; accordingly WaWaWa offers an open invitation to artists/visionaries, educators/healers, historians/students of the African diaspora to “come” and explore/create/exchange with the Beninoise people, in order to acknowledge and actively heal historic wounds and trauma related to the TransAtlantic Slave Trade.
WaWaWa offers culturally transformative tours, lectures/workshops/classes, dynamic performances, visual arts exhibitions, film screenings, salons, exhibits and festivals. This project is a bridge facilitating the “coming together” of many people across many waters, waters that bypass geographic limitations. Though our varied ancestral routes have created identities of interwoven strands of ethnicities and loyalties, our roots ground us in Africa. Only when we are
