MANDATE OF THE MISSION
The African Union Representational Mission to the United States of America is the first bilateral diplomatic mission of the African Union. Officially launched on July 11, 2007 in Washington, DC, its mandate is to undertake, develop and maintain constructive and productive institutional relationships between the African Union and the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. government, the African Diplomatic Corps, the Africans in the Diaspora, and the Bretton Woods Institutions through.
CORE FUNCTION OF THE MISSION
Coordinate African Positions in efforts to mobilize support for Africa’s development and to adopt common positions on key issues; Build, Sustain and Nurture the Bilateral Relationship between the USA and the African Union.; Inform America and Promote Africa; To establish working relationships with World Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund, and the Organization of American States; AND Build Constituencies for Africa – Diaspora engagement.
