Emmanuel Jal
Born into the life of a child solider in the war-torn region of Southern Sudan on an unknown date, Emmanuel Jal managed to survive and emerge as a recording artist, achieving worldwide acclaim for his unique style of hip hop with its message of peace and reconciliation. That message has carried through all of Jal’s work, whether it be his memoir “Warchild”, his widely-shared Ted Talk, co-starring with Reese Witherspoon in the motion picture “The Good Lie”, and even reconciling with healthy eating by launching the instant powder super food "Jal Gua". “The Key”, his Juno-nominated fifth studio album featuring Nile Rodgers and Nelly Furtado, was released through Gatwitch/Universal in 2014.
